Balangir:A 42-year-old man stabbed a woman after a heated argument and was later beaten to death by her family members at Sainagar Pada under Belpada police station limits in Balangir district. The deceased has been identified as Munna Behera of Arantala village under Muribahal police station.“Police rushed to the scene after receiving information. The injured were rescued and initially admitted to Belpada hospital. No arrest has been made yet,” said Ananta Pradhan, IIC, Belpada police station.According to initial reports, Munna went to the woman’s house he was in a relationship with for several years. The two reportedly were separated about a month ago, after which the woman moved in with her relatives in Belpada.An argument broke out between them on Wednesday. During the altercation, Munna allegedly pulled out a sharp knife and stabbed the woman in the stomach, leaving her with grievous injuries.Angered by the attack, the woman’s relatives and neighbours retaliated and assaulted Munna. Both the injured were rushed to Belpada CHC. Due to the severity of her condition, the woman was first referred to the district headquarters hospital and is now undergoing treatment at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital, Balangir.Munna, who was also critically injured, died on the way to Balangir while being shifted for treatment. Police revealed this was not the first confrontation. A few days ago, Munna allegedly tried to kidnap the woman’s minor daughter at knifepoint after failing to locate her. A case was registered at Belpada police station in connection with that incident, and one person was arrested. Munna had since been absconding.
