Guwahati: A teacher at a govt residential school in Assam’s Baksa district was arrested on Sunday after students alleged inappropriate conduct.Police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act at Dalbari outpost and began an investigation. The accused is a science teacher at a school in Bajali district.Dalbari outpost in charge Reshmi Kalita said, “We have not recorded everyone’s statement yet; only the complainants have given their statements. The entire matter can be disclosed only after the statements are produced before the court.”Kalita said about eight students, accompanied by their warden and teachers, approached the police who were in the area investigating another matter. The students raised concerns about the accused’s behaviour and were advised to file a complaint.“We advised the students to lodge an FIR detailing their allegations. The students subsequently filed a complaint, following which our team proceeded with the case based on the allegations made in the FIR. The complaint provided the basis for the team to take the matter forward and initiate the necessary proceedings,” she added.The accused joined the school in Aug as a guest faculty member.A school staff member alleged, “He allegedly behaves inappropriately towards the girls during class hours and touches them. These are girls from classes 6 and 7, all minors. The girls have repeatedly complained about this to the teachers. He is a guest teacher appointed by the inspector of schools for three months, and his term is nearing its end.”
