Vadodara: A gang of four daily wage labourers have ended up in a police lockup due to their alleged involvement in a string of thefts. Dahod rural police cracked two temple burglaries and a motorcycle theft following the arrest of the four-man crew. The gang’s luck ran out after they targeted the Kedarnath Mahadev temple in Chosala village on June 21. In an attempt to cover their tracks, the thieves smashed the shrine’s CCTV cameras before breaking open the donation boxes. Their total haul was Rs 1,600 in cash and five brass holy water vessels — all valued at a modest Rs 3,100.Tipped off, the police rounded up four suspects: Mehul Chauhan, 20, of Punsari village; Sagar Mavi, 22, of Raliyati; Vinitkumar alias Monu Bamaniya, 31, of Gadoi village; and Vijay Ohniya, 20, a resident near Desai Petrol Pump in Dahod.Under interrogation, they crumbled and confessed not only to targeting the Chosala temple but also plundering another Shiv temple in Bawka village just 10 days earlier. To add to their rap sheet, two of the men also admitted they had recently snatched a motorcycle off the Ahmedabad-Indore National Highway, solving a pending case at the Katwara police station.
