Chennai: Three years after initiating a criminal defamation complaint against the then BJP state unit president K Annamalai, the DMK treasurer, T R Baalu, withdrew the case in a city court on Tuesday.Baalu withdrew the case pending before the XVII metropolitan magistrate, said his counsel in a statement, adding: “It is to be noted that earlier, K Annamalai’s counsel had submitted to the Hon’ble court that he wished to not press the complaint filed by him before the same court. Accepting both submissions, the Magistrate permitted withdrawal of both cases.”Baalu had filed the case in 2023 after Annamalai released ‘DMK files’, levelling corruption allegations against several DMK leaders.Both Baalu and Annamalai had personally appeared before the court several times during the trial.
