Pulwama, Sep 20: Continuing the awareness campaign under the nationwide Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, district administration Pulwama on Sunday organised an awareness programme at Circuit House, Pulwama, with the objective of sensitising participants about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promoting a drug-free society.
The Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi earlier with the 100-Week Action Plan with the objective of developing physically healthy, mentally robust, and highly confident younger generation completely free from self-destructive habits.
The programme brought together representatives from various departments and focused on creating awareness about the physical, psychological, social and economic consequences of drug abuse. Resource persons from the Health, Education and Social Welfare departments highlighted different aspects of substance abuse and stressed the need for coordinated efforts to prevent its spread.
Speakers on the occasion highlighted the important role of educational institutions in preventing drug abuse through regular awareness and sensitisation programmes, counselling and active involvement of parents and the community.
On the occasion, the resource persons also spoke about the role of awareness, counselling, rehabilitation and support mechanisms for individuals and families affected by substance abuse. Emphasis was laid on ensuring that persons struggling with addiction receive timely support and are encouraged to seek appropriate assistance.
Furthermore, experts from the Health Department elaborated on the adverse health consequences of drug addiction and stressed the importance of timely medical intervention, counselling and rehabilitation. Participants were also sensitised about the need to identify cases at an early stage and facilitate appropriate support and treatment.
The speakers also emphasised that combating drug abuse requires sustained and coordinated efforts involving government departments, educational institutions, parents, civil society and the community. The participants were urged to actively contribute towards spreading awareness and strengthening collective efforts for realising the vision of Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan.
