Dibrugarh: Managing director of Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited (AVFCCL), Siba Prasad Mohanty, on Sunday visited the Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project site at Namrup to take stock of progress on the ground.During inspection, Mohanty reviewed key milestones in project execution, assessed groundwork, and held detailed interactions with the project team. He stressed the critical importance of adhering to timelines to ensure the successful realisation of the transformative project.“We must accelerate work where needed, maintain strict quality and safety standards, and ensure every milestone is met on time. Coordination among agencies, timely delivery of critical equipment and uninterrupted manpower deployment will determine how quickly Namrup becomes operational,” Mohanty said.The Bhoomi Pujan of the ambitious project was performed by PM Narendra Modi on Dec 21, 2025, marking the beginning of a landmark project with an estimated investment of Rs 10,600 crore. Since then, ground activities have been gaining momentum at the Namrup site.The Namrup-IV Ammonia-Urea Complex is being executed by AVFCCL, a newly formed joint venture whose partners include Assam govt, Oil India Limited (OIL), National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL) and Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL).The proposed Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Plant at Namrup is a brownfield project to be developed within the existing premises of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited. Once operational, the new fertiliser unit is expected to significantly expand the supply chain for urea and related products in the northeast, reduce dependence on distant production centres, and improve timely availability for farmers. The plant will have an annual production capacity of about 1.25 million metric tonnes and is expected to generate substantial direct and indirect employment.AVFCCL already floated key tenders for bush clearing, topographical and contour surveys, as well as geotechnical investigation work, marking the official launch of on-ground activities for the project. Sunday’s site visit by the MD signals a continued push to accelerate execution as the project moves into more advanced stages of development.The new fertiliser unit is expected to play a transformative role in reviving the region’s industrial ecosystem, creating employment, and ensuring fertiliser self-sufficiency for Assam and neighbouring states. It also aligns with Assam’s broader ambition of emerging among the top five states in India in terms of economic growth and industrial output.The Namrup-III unit of BVFCL currently remains the only operational urea plant in the entire Northeast region, supporting agriculture across Assam and nearby states. The new AVFCCL facility is expected to substantially increase regional urea availability, reducing farmers’ dependence on supplies transported from distant plants.Authorities reaffirmed that the project remains on course, with all stakeholders aligned on the shared goal of delivering a world-class fertiliser facility that will serve the agricultural heartland of the northeast.
