Gurgaon: A 52-year-old Delhi resident died after the auto-rickshaw he was travelling in crashed into a divider near the New Colony cut on Old Railway Road on Sunday morning. Police suspect the auto was hit by an unidentified vehicle before the crash.The deceased, William, a resident of Palam, worked at a shop in Sadar Bazaar, Gurgaon.According to police, the accident took place around 9 am when an unknown vehicle allegedly hit the auto-rickshaw, causing the driver to lose control and ram into the divider.Police said William was found lying injured near the spot by passers-by, who alerted the authorities. By then, the auto-rickshaw driver was no longer at the scene. An emergency response vehicle (ERV) reached the spot and rushed William to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Police said he suffered multiple injuries, including a serious head injury on the left side of his forehead.An FIR has been registered at city police station against the unidentified vehicle under Sections 106 (death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of BNS.An investigating officer said police are examining CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and reconstruct the sequence of events. “One camera near the spot was found non-functional, while footage from other cameras did not capture the exact angle of the crash,” the officer said.Police said the auto driver is also being questioned as part of the investigation.
