Srinagar, May 19:The Food Safety Team Srinagar continued its inspection drive across various parts of the city in coordination with officials from Police Stations Baghat and Chanapora to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
During the joint operation, inspections were carried out in areas including Parraypora, Baghat, Sabetnagar, Azad Basti, Natipora, Chanapora, HMT Zainakote, and Boulevard. Samples of various food commodities were collected for laboratory analysis to verify their quality and safety standards.Officials said the drive focused on promoting hygienic practices and proper storage of food items among Food Business Operators (FBOs).
Traders and vendors were sensitized about Good Storage Practices, particularly the need to maintain appropriate temperatures for perishable food products.During the inspection, one tea stall was directed to cease operations after authorities found it violating Schedule 4(2) provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Additionally, two food business operators were fined on the spot for alleged violations of provisions under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act.The Food Safety Department reiterated its advisory to all food business operators, directing them not to expose food items to direct sunlight and to strictly adhere to storage conditions prescribed on product labels.
Authorities warned that any operator found violating food safety norms or prescribed storage conditions would face action under relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Officials added that the inspection drive will continue across Srinagar in the coming days to strengthen food safety enforcement and safeguard public health.
