Mumbai: Hindi film actor Raveena Tandon was named the honorary director of PETA India for her tireless volunteer work to save wild animals and stop cruelty to dogs and cats. She was the second person to be honoured with this post, after actor John Abraham, who is also an ardent animal lover.Various other celebs and social workers, including actor Rupa Ganguly and the priest of Irinjadappilly, Rajkumar PI, who is a vegan, were also honoured at the event held in Mumbai.“I’m thankful for this tremendous honour of being made PETA India honorary director and look forward to continuing to support vital work to make the world a more compassionate place for all,” said Tandon. “Through my association with PETA India, my heart was opened to empathy that does not differentiate between species, and I am deeply committed to protecting animals in every way I can,” she added.PETA India director Poorva Joshipura presented the honours, and the founder of PETA entities worldwide, Ingrid Newkirk, gave a thought-provoking talk.
