Hyderabad: BRS MLA P Sabitha Indra Reddy on Saturday said that the chief minister should make an announcement that govt will reimburse (fee of students) college managements and give assurance to students. She said that if govt doesn’t come forward and make the announcement, one would have to conclude that conspiracies were underway to erase the legacies of not just K Chandrasekhar Rao, but YS Rajasekhara Reddy as well.“This scheme, introduced by the late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, was continued by KCR, invoking YSR’s name as he believed it would benefit the future of SC, ST, BC and minority students,” the BRS MLA said in a post on ‘X’. At least now the state should assure students that it would roll out the fee reimbursement scheme, she added.Sabitha said that high court verdict would likely affect 13 lakh BC, SC, ST and minority students in the state who were dependent on the fee reimbursement scheme to pursue higher education. “The verdict is likely to cause significant mental distress among students,” the BRS leader said, adding that govt owes approximately 12,000 crore to college managements. The former home minister alleged that in the past, when college managements demanded fee reimbursement dues, the govt promised to pay them while simultaneously attempting to intimidate them. She added that the state should take measures to continue this scheme, which is beneficial to students.
