Varanasi/Lucknow: Sonbhadra police seized assets worth Rs 5.32 crore in five cases involving people allegedly linked to the illegal narcotics trade.According to the police, properties worth Rs 5.32 crore have been seized or frozen under sections 68E and 68F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in five cases registered at Robertsganj, Anpara, Shaktinagar and Myorpur police stations.The largest action was taken in a codeine-based cough syrup case registered at Robertsganj police station in which assets worth Rs 4.50 crore were seized or frozen. In another heroin-related case at Robertsganj, police froze assets worth Rs 1.08 lakh.At Anpara police station, properties worth Rs 26.62 lakh were frozen in a heroin-related case, while an NDPS-related case at Shaktinagar resulted in the seizure or freezing of assets worth Rs 15.72 lakh.The latest action was carried out by Myorpur police, which froze assets worth Rs 38.83 lakh belonging to Meera Devi, wife of Jitendra Nath, in an NDPS case. The Myorpur action was linked to a case registered under the NDPS Act. The properties frozen included a house valued at Rs 29,14,339, two bank accounts containing Rs 25,463.52 and Rs 4,78,891, a motorcycle worth Rs 40,000 and a Sonalika tractor valued at Rs 4.25 lakh.The police said the cumulative action was taken as part of the campaign being conducted under the direction of Sonbhadra SP Abhishek Verma against drug trafficking and people allegedly involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
