Bihar legislative assembly speaker Prem Kumar at a health camp set up in flood-affected area of Patna

Patna: Bihar legislative assembly speaker Prem Kumar on Wednesday visited flood-affected areas of Patna district, reviewing relief and rescue operations and arrangements for affected families.Kumar inspected relief camps in the Digha Ghat area, Kurji Ghat, around JP Ganga Path and Bind Toli. During the visit, he assessed basic amenities, health services, food supply and drinking water facilities. He met flood-affected residents living in the camps and sought details about their problems, requirements and concerns. He also inspected the community kitchen and reviewed the quality of food served and the system for distribution.In a statement after the inspection, the speaker said nearly 3,000 people were staying at the relief camp in Bind Toli, while about 2,500 people were housed at the camp near Digha Ghat. He said arrangements had been made for cleanliness, doctors, medicines, veterinary care and medicines for animals. Temporary schools have also been set up in the camps to ensure that children from flood-hit families continue their education.Kumar said cases of skin-related ailments and viral infections were being reported from the affected areas, and adequate treatment facilities had been arranged. He added that doctors and health workers were available in numbers, while essential medicines and ambulances had also been ensured at the camps.The speaker also inspected an animal shelter and fed fodder to protected animals, especially cows. He reviewed the availability of fodder, water and medical facilities for livestock, saying the safety and care of animals had been kept on priority along with protection of human life.Kumar said providing relief to flood-affected people was a collective responsibility. He said the administration and departments concerned had been directed to continuously monitor camp facilities and make immediate improvements required, ensuring a safe and dignified environment. He appreciated the Bihar govt’s arrangements for flood victims. He spoke to Patna district magistrate Kundan Kumar and expressed satisfaction with the arrangements.
