Guwahati: Assam is set to strengthen connectivity across the Brahmaputra with three major bridges scheduled for completion between 2027 and 2028, while a fourth bridge linking Morigaon and Darrang district is awaiting final approval from the Centre.Replying to a question in the Assembly on Monday, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also holds the Lok Nirman department portfolio, said construction of the Jogighopa bridge in lower Assam has reached 82%, followed by the Palasbari-Sualkuchi bridge at 50% and the Jorhat-Majuli bridge at 34%. He said the detailed project report (DPR) for a proposed bridge connecting Bhuragaon in Morigaon with Burigaon in Darrang has been submitted to the Union ministry of road transport and highways for final approval.In a written reply to AGP MLA Diptimoyee Choudhury, Sarma said the 3.6-km Palasbari-Sualkuchi bridge, being built on the western outskirts of Guwahati, is targeted for completion by June 6, 2028. “The total construction cost of the bridge is Rs 3197.20 crore. So far, 50% of the bridge work has progressed,” Sarma said.The CM said the 4.385-km Jogighopa bridge is expected to be completed by March 31, 2027. “The total construction cost of the bridge is Rs 746.76 crore. So far, 82% of the work of the bridge has progressed,” he informed the House.Sarma said the 6.81-km Jorhat-Majuli bridge, the longest among the three projects under construction, is scheduled for completion by Dec 10, 2027. “The total construction cost of the bridge is Rs 1,108.20 crore, but so far, 34.35% of the work has progressed,” he said.According to the written reply, the proposed Bhuragaon (Morigaon)-Burigaon (Darrang) bridge is estimated to cost Rs 3,250.98 crore, and its DPR has already been submitted to the Centre for final approval.
