Guwahati: In view of the assembly polls, the excise department has made separate arrangements at 30 check posts along inter-state borders to curb the illicit movement of liquor and related activities while vigilance has been beefed up at all inter-state border entry-exit points and along the international border with two countries.Assam shares inter-state borders with Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Nagaland and international borders with Bangladesh and Bhutan.State chief secretary Ravi Kota has also directed the enforcement agencies district authorities to intensify vigilance at inter-district borders through continuous monitoring of entry and exit points.“Steps have been initiated to establish Naka Check Posts at all border entry points, along with the operationalisation of 63 designated entry and exit points,” he added.He also directed the district commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police to address localised tensions, if any creates, promptly to ensure an incident-free election, and to strengthen the enforcement of directions against inducements such as cash, liquor, and other materials.Further, the CS said, a robust coordination mechanism has been institutionalised at multiple levels, including the chief secretary, Director General of Police, and district administrations, in close coordination with their counterparts in neighbouring states. This is aimed at ensuring seamless information sharing, coordinated surveillance, and effective enforcement during the election period,” he added.Kota said that around 800 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) are being planned for deployment across districts based on vulnerability assessments. He directed DCs and SSPs to ensure coordinated deployment and effective utilisation of these forces.In a review meeting held by the CS with DGP and DCs and SSPs, DGP Harmeet Singh emphasized strengthened district-level intelligence gathering, with close coordination among district administration, police, and grassroot government machinery.
