Itanagar: An Assam Rifles personnel was killed and four others injured after a patrol team came under suspected militant fire near India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Tuesday morning, a source said.The attack took place around 6.30 am near Nampong Nallah under Nampong Circle, where personnel of 21 Assam Rifles were patrolling an area where border fencing work is under way, they said.The deceased was identified as havildar Jankhokai Kuki (42). The injured personnel were being evacuated for medical treatment. Their condition was not immediately known.Preliminary reports suggested that militants belonging to NSCN (K-YA) may have been involved in the attack. However, there was no official confirmation regarding the identity of the attackers.Security forces have intensified operations in the area, the source added. An official statement from Assam Rifles was awaited.Changlang SP Kirli Padu said he had received information about the incident and directed OC of Changlang police station to gather details. “We have received information about the incident that occurred along the IMB (India-Myanmar Border) and have asked the OC of Changlang police station to collect all information related to it,” the SP said.Padu did not provide further details.India-Myanmar border in Changlang district has remained sensitive because of the movement of insurgent groups operating in the region and across the international boundary.
