Guwahati: The Assam cabinet on Saturday approved major changes to the state’s MBBS admission policy, including introduction of a quota for domiciled orphaned students.Under the decision, two MBBS seats will be reserved for such students on an experimental basis and adjusted against social category quotas.The cabinet also expanded reservations for five indigenous communities, allocating one additional MBBS seat each to students from the Moran, Matak, Koch Rajbongshi, Tai Ahom and Chutia communities in state medical colleges.In another change, candidates who completed their schooling outside the state will be eligible for admission under the Assam quota, if their families have been permanent residents of the state for three generations.
