Dibrugarh: Assam governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Monday led the third leg of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Sankalp Padayatra in Dibrugarh calling for sustained public awareness and collective efforts to protect the youth from substance abuse and build a drug-free society.The padayatra, held after its launch in Cachar and Sribhumi last week, began at the Dibrugarh District Library following a public meeting attended by students, teachers, NCC cadets, social organisations, NGOs, civil society members and officials.Addressing the gathering, Acharya said the objective of the padayatra was to take the message of a drug-free society to every section of Assam. He stressed that tackling substance abuse could not be left to law enforcement agencies alone and required the involvement of families, educational institutions, communities, civil society and the administration.“The fight against substance abuse requires collective action. Families, educational institutions and communities must work together to create awareness, prevent drug use and support young people,” the governor said.
