Assam Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Anurag Goel on Wednesday said that a total of 2,43,485 voters’ names were dropped from the draft list, which had recorded 2,52,01,624 voters.
As per the published final electoral rolls, Assam has a total of the 2,49,58,139 eligible voters including 1,24,82,213 male, 1,24,75,583 female and 343 voters in the third gender category.
The Chief Minister said that more names will be dropped after Special Intensive Revision in Assam.
“BJP workers has lodged complaints and based on those complaints lots of names were dropped. After Asaam Accord , it is for the first time that substantial number of names of doubtful voters were dropped. This happened for the first time in Assam,” said the Chief Minister.
“There has been attempts to intimidate our workers but despite the BJP workers have done that. It is because of their courage that we have been successful to wipe out the names of foreigners,” he said adding that the fight against illegal foreigners and Bangladeshis will continue in Assam.
The CEO on Wednesday revealed that the recently concluded SR identified 478992 deceased voters while it identified 5,23,680 shifted voters. A total of 53,619 were identified as multiple entries and were deleted.He said that the SR identified a total of 1,46,342 potential voters over 17 years of age while 6,27,696 people were identified to be over 18 years who were not registered as voters.
