Dhemaji: BJP’s Assam manifesto, unveiled on Tuesday, has promised to bring Uniform Civil Code (UCC), stricter anti-infiltration laws, two lakh government jobs, support for 10 lakh entrepreneurs besides measures to detect and deport illegal immigrants, and reclaim encroached land. The manifesto was unveiled at Vajpayee Bhawan in the presence of Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Sarbananda Sonowal, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP chief Dilip Saikia.

The manifesto said: “we will protect the land, heritage and dignity of the indigenous people of Assam by implementing the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950, to speed up detection and pushback of illegal immigrants, freeing every inch of land from encroachment by illegal immigrants and providing land rights to all genuine citizens of Assam under Mission Basundhara.”

The manifesto also includes “ensuring the inclusion of historically significant heroes in the school curriculum to acknowledge and honour their contributions to Assam’s history, launching a dedicated Assamese OTT platform to preserve and showcase Assamese cinema, literature, folk songs, music and documentaries.”
The party has promised to “invest ₹5 lakh crore to position Assam as India’s Eastern Gateway, backed by an Asom Gati Shakti Master Plan to ensure the timely completion of projects”.
