In a letter addressed to Mallikarjun Kharge, Prateek said he was stepping back from the contest following his father’s decision to leave the Congress and join another party. However, he made it clear that he would continue to remain with the Congress.

“With utmost respect and a deep sense of responsibility towards the party, I wish to convey my decision to withdraw my candidacy from the Margherita Assembly Constituency,” Prateek said in the letter, which was shared with reporters on Thursday.
Explaining his decision, he said it would not be appropriate for him to continue as a Congress candidate in the changed circumstances. Despite withdrawing from the race, Prateek reaffirmed his commitment to the party.
He added that he would “continue to work for the party in whatever capacity the leadership deems appropriate”.
