Nagpur: A 17-year-old aspiring woman cricketer died by suicide due to dejection after failing to make it to the higher level, leaving the sporting fraternity of the city in shock.The incident came to light early Thursday morning at Laxmi Nagar under Bajaj Nagar police station limits. The deceased, Aditi Chaukhande, a resident of Akola originally, lived with her mother and elder brother in Nagpur. Her father is a civil contractor in Akola.Aditi had recently cleared her Class 12 examination. As per police, Aditi was training along with her brother Prabal, who is also an emerging cricketer. On Wednesday night, after having dinner with her mother, Aditi went to her room and hanged herself. Prabal was out of station at that time.A suicide note was recovered in which Aditi expressed her desire to make her parents proud and her disappointment over non-selection. “Dada, you play so well. You will become very big. Make our parents proud. I am sad I couldn’t be selected,” the note read, said police.“The victim seems to have taken the drastic step due to disappointment over not getting selected in a big team,” said senior inspector Chetan Chauhan. An accidental death case has been registered.
