Jaipur: SOG additional SP Mukesh Kumar Soni, arrested in the Rs 2 crore Udaipur bribery case, allegedly suspected that Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) was preparing to trap him and had been keeping an eye on the complainant, bureau sources said.The suspicion prompted ACB to change its strategy. After the complainant told officials that he feared Soni was keeping him under surveillance, the bureau kept personnel from its local outpost out of the initial operation and brought in an administrative officer to verify the alleged bribe demand.Soni, however, has not been cooperating with investigators since his arrest, sources said. Investigators have been unable to unlock his iPhone for five days as he has allegedly refused to share its password. They suspect the phone may contain evidence related to the case.Soni initially denied demanding any bribe during questioning. Investigators then played him a recording of the alleged demand, following which he remained silent, sources said. Middleman Sajjan Singh Jain allegedly told investigators that he had contacted the complainant on Soni’s instructions.Soni was arrested on Sept 27 and has been questioned since then.Investigators have also questioned Soni about a DVR seized from the complainant’s house and three blank cheques that the complainant was allegedly made to sign. Sources said Soni did not provide clear answers. He was also questioned about whom the alleged bribe money was to be distributed among.According to ACB sources, Soni was familiar with the bureau’s working methods and knew several officers and employees posted at its outpost.
