Kalingarayan aqueduct bridge

ERODE: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has ordered the Tamil Nadu water resources department not to demolish the centuries old Kalingarayan aqueduct bridge across the Perumpallam stream in Erode district. The department wanted to demolish the 750 years old bridge and build a new one. The ASI has assured the department that it is ready to provide the necessary technical support to protect the bridge.The ASI’s direction to the department comes after various organisations sent petitions to it. They held protests opposing the move demolish the bridge. President of the Kalingarayan Irrigation Farmers Association A Nallasamy said the bridge was constructed with two side walls, 13 pillars and 14 abutments.
