Rajkot: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a gram raksha dal (GRD) jawan were arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officers on Sunday for allegedly accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe from a complainant in connection with an assault case registered at Aji Dam police station.The arrested accused were identified as ASI Rajesh Mer (53), attached to the Aji Dam police outpost, and GRD jawan Manoj Chauhan (31).According to ACB, an assault case was registered against the complainant at Aji Dam police station and Mer was handling the investigation. During investigation, the complainant was allegedly asked to pay Rs 10,000 to ensure that the accused persons were not kept in police lock-up and that their bail formalities would be expedited.The complainant was allegedly directed to hand over the money to Chauhan. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant contacted ACB through its toll-free helpline 1064 and lodged a complaint.Based on the complaint, the Rajkot Rural ACB team laid a trap on Sunday.“During the trap, the complainant handed over Rs 10,000 to the GRD jawan as instructed. Chauhan accepted the money in the campus of Traffic Bhavan east division, opposite the gate of Aji Dam police outpost,” said trap officer M N Rana, speaking to TOI.The ACB team allegedly caught Chauhan accepting the bribe. The entire Rs 10,000 was recovered from the spot. ASI Mer and Chauhan were also apprehended during the operation.The ACB has registered a case against the two accused and initiated further investigation into the alleged demand and acceptance of the bribe.
