Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh has launched a joint initiative with IIT Delhi to prepare district-specific road safety action plans for three districts with high fatality rates, as the state targets a 50% reduction in traffic deaths by 2030.Transport minister Ojing Tasing announced the initiative at an inception workshop held at IIT Delhi, organised by the state transport department and the institute’s transportation research and injury prevention centre (TRIPC).The project will cover the Itanagar Capital Region, East Siang and Namsai. It aims to develop evidence-based interventions to reduce road deaths in line with the mandates of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety.IIT Delhi dean (industry research and development) Ashwini Agarwal highlighted the institution’s focus on addressing public policy challenges through research and innovation.Transport commissioner Saugat Biswas stressed the need to move beyond aggregate crash statistics and identify local risks, while fixing clear institutional accountability
