Itanagar: A 29-year-old sanitary supervisor at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) was arrested on Friday for allegedly secretly recording women inside a hospital washroom.The accused, identified as Tamchi Nido, joined the state-run healthcare facility in 2021 as multi-tasking staff and was promoted to sanitary supervisor in May last year.Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) Naharlagun SP Nyelam Nega said the incident occurred on Thursday morning when a woman using a public washroom near the Intensive Care Cardiac Unit (ICCU) block noticed a mobile phone protruding from a ventilation gap. Suspecting she was being filmed, she raised an alarm, alerting family members and others outside.Nido allegedly tried to flee during the commotion but was caught while attempting to delete the recordings from his phone to destroy evidence. He was restrained and handed over to a police team led by Naharlagun police station Inspector Krishnendu Dev.“During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed that he was secretly recording women inside the hospital washrooms for the past three to four months. Based on his disclosure, investigators recovered several voyeuristic videos from his mobile handset,” the SP said.Police seized the smartphone and registered a case under Sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 77 (sexual harassment), 78(1) (voyeurism) and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The SP said the investigation is being closely monitored by ASP Rishi Longdo.Police said the accused will be produced before a local court and custody will be sought.
