Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has raised strong objections to the recently released United Nations world map depicting Arunachal Pradesh between Indian and Chinese claim lines.APCC president Bosiram Siram termed the representation inaccurate and unacceptable, asserting that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India. He rejected any foreign attempts to create cartographic ambiguity over the state’s territorial status.Siram said no unauthorised map, nomenclature, or virtual boundary line can alter India’s sovereignty over Arunachal Pradesh. He said the state’s population has been fully integrated into the nation’s democratic framework since Independence, participating continuously through Indian constitutional and administrative institutions. The APCC extended its support to Centre’s diplomatic objections to the misleading publication.Siram clarified that India’s vote supporting the UN General Assembly resolution on equal-area cartographic projection was intended solely to enhance mapping accuracy and must not be misinterpreted as an endorsement of any territorial claims or alterations to international borders. He said, as a global institution, the UN bears a responsibility to maintain strict neutrality and accuracy without propagating misleading political narratives. The APCC asked the UN to clarify the source data used for the map, explain why Arunachal Pradesh was shown between competing claim lines, and immediately correct all future geographical databases to align with India’s established positions.Siram said cartographic assertions by foreign powers, particularly China’s continued attempts to unilaterally rename places, required sustained diplomatic vigilance and fact-based counterarguments. The APCC also urged Centre to strengthen India’s physical presence along the frontier by accelerating infrastructure development under initiatives such as the Vibrant Villages Programme. The party also sought stronger constitutional safeguards under Article 371H to protect the indigenous land rights, customary institutions, cultural identity and natural resources of Arunachal Pradesh’s frontier communities.
