20% Quota For Retd Agniveers In Security & Enforcement DeptsItanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet, chaired by CM Pema Khandu, on Friday approved a Rs7,834-crore investment package for four major development schemes covering roads, power and education, besides clearing 20% reservation for retired Agniveers from the state in security and enforcement services.The investment package, to be implemented during the 2026-29 period, includes Rs 2,334 crore for phase-II of the CM’s comprehensive state road development plan.The cabinet also approved Rs 2,000 crore for all-weather rural roads in areas not covered under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Another Rs 2,000 crore was cleared for the CM’s comprehensive state power development programme, which aims to reduce aggregate technical and commercial losses to 18% by March 2029.In the education sector, Rs 1,500 crore was approved for phase-II of Mission Shikshit Arunachal to address infrastructure gaps in schools and strengthen digital monitoring through the Arunachal Vidya Nidhi platform.In a key recruitment decision, the cabinet approved 20% reservation for retired Agniveers from Arunachal Pradesh in direct recruitment to the state police, armed battalions, fire services and forest guard posts. It also cleared the CM’s Frontier Sainik School Scholarship Scheme and an Indian Army-led mentorship programme to encourage youth from the state to join the armed forces.The cabinet also unveiled the Arunachal Human Capital and Economic Transformation Vision 2036, which sets targets to skill one lakh youth, create 10,000 local entrepreneurs and upgrade all 10 Industrial Training Institutes in the state into modern skill hubs.Among other decisions, the cabinet also approved a slew of healthcare and social welfare measures, aimed at widening access to affordable medical treatment, strengthening preventive care and tackling drug abuse.The cabinet approved CM CARES — Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Action for Resilient, Equitable & Healthy State — as an umbrella programme to bring greater convergence between health and social security schemes.In another key decision, the government approved Mission SURAKSHA — State Unified Response Against Drugs, Substance Harm & Addiction — to strengthen action against drug trafficking and improve rehabilitation support.
