Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet, chaired by chief minister Pema Khandu, on Wednesday passed a resolution approving the constitution of an empowered high-level committee to oversee and coordinate the pre-feasibility report (PFR) survey for the proposed Upper Siang Multipurpose Project (SUMP).The project, which spans Siang and Upper Siang districts, was declared a national project by Centre in 2008.An official statement said the cabinet highlighted the project’s strategic importance for both Arunachal Pradesh and the country, citing its potential to bolster energy and water security, mitigate floods across the Siang-Brahmaputra basin, create job opportunities, and drive socio-economic growth in the region.The committee will be headed by rural development and panchayati raj minister Ojing Tasing. The panel also includes adviser to chief minister and Tuting-Yingkiong MLA Alo Libang and Geku-Mariyang MLA Oni Panyang as members.
