The makers of Ramayana have unveiled a behind-the-scenes video offering a glimpse into the making of the much-awaited epic, while also shedding light on why Ranbir Kapoor was considered the ideal choice to portray Lord Ram. The video features director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra and members of the cast, including Arun Govil, Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Ravie Dubey, discussing the significance of the story and their approach to bringing it to the big screen.
Arun Govil then explained why he felt Ranbir was particularly suited to the role
Arun Govil explained, “Aur Ranbir ke baare mse… main yeh kehna chahunga ki jo be me sochta tha ki Ram aise chalte honge, aise beth te honge, aise dekhte honge, aise baat karte honge, toh dono tino cheeze hai unme. Normally you don’t expect ki ek star jo hai woh aakar paon chuye mere. He always does it (And about Ranbir, I would like to say that whatever I used to imagine—how Ram would walk, how he would sit, how he would look, how he would speak—he has all those qualities. Normally, you don’t expect a star to come and touch your feet. He always does it).”He also said, “Iss wakt jitney available stars hai, young stars hai. Unme Ranbir is the closest for playing Ram (Among all the young stars who are currently available, Ranbir is the closest to being able to play Ram).”
Arun Govil calls Ramayana ‘our pride, culture and heritage’
Arun Govil, who famously portrayed Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, opened the video by highlighting the cultural significance of the epic.He said, “Sabse Pehle aap sabko Jai Shree Ram. Ramayan ko paribhashit nahi kiya ja sakta. Uski definition nahi hai koi. Balki hum yeh kahenge, Ramayana humara Gaurav hai, Ramayana humara maan hai, humara abhimaan hai, humari sanskriti hai, humari dharohar hai. Sab kuch humare yaha, humare liye Ramayan hai (First of all, Jai Shree Ram to all of you. Ramayan cannot be defined. There is no definition for it. Rather, we would say that Ramayana is our pride, our honour, our glory, our culture and our heritage. Everything about us, everything for us, is Ramayan).”
