VAISHALI: An Army personnel and his father were allegedly shot dead in Bihar’s Vaishali district on Sunday in a suspected dispute over a pathway leading to their house, police said.Officials suspect the involvement of some relatives in the double murder.The incident took place in the Bidupur police station area.According to police, the victims were identified as Narik Rai and his son, Jitendra Kumar, who was serving in the Army.“Owing to a suspected land dispute over a pathway, the accused shot Narik Rai and his son Jitendra Kumar, who was an Army personnel. Rai died on the spot while Kumar beathed his last at Sadar hospital where he was taken for treatment,” Sadar SDPO Subodh Kumar told reporters.Preliminary investigation revealed that some family members had allegedly blocked a pathway leading to the victims’ residence, triggering repeated disputes over the past few days, police said.“Tensions had flared on Saturday night, prompting a police team to intervene and restore order. However, the dispute resurfaced on Sunday morning and culminated in firing around 200 metres from the victims’ house,” Kumar said.Police have recovered four cartridges from the spot and identified the accused.“Further investigation is underway and efforts are on to arrest the accused at the earliest,” the officer added.(With PTI inputs)
