Handwara, Aug 29: In a major healthcare outreach initiative, the Indian Army organised a free medical camp at Ananwan in Langate on Saturday, bringing doctors, medicines and basic healthcare services closer to residents of the remote area.
The camp was organised under Operation Sadbhavana and witnessed participation of around 650 to 700 residents from Ananwan and adjoining villages. Children, women and elderly people were among those who attended the camp and availed free medical services.
A team of Army and civil doctors, including doctors from Government Medical College, Handwara, conducted consultations and basic health screenings. Medicines were also provided free of cost to patients, along with medical advice based on their individual health concerns.
Doctors paid special attention to seasonal illnesses, maternal and child health, hygiene, nutrition and preventive healthcare. Residents were also advised to maintain proper sanitation, consume safe drinking water and seek medical attention without delay when health problems arise.
For residents of Ananwan and nearby areas, the camp provided an opportunity to consult doctors without travelling long distances to healthcare facilities.
The initiative was also held on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad. (SAW). The Army said the programme reflected the spirit of compassion, service and community outreach.
The camp received a huge response from residents, who appreciated the availability of free consultation and medicines in their locality. The interaction between doctors, Army personnel and villagers also provided an opportunity to discuss healthcare concerns affecting people in the area.
The Army said the initiative was part of its continued efforts under Operation Sadbhavana to address the healthcare and welfare needs of people living in remote areas of Kashmir.
The programme also highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare and regular medical consultation, while providing residents with direct access to medical professionals and essential medicines.
