Amritsar: The Amritsar police dismantled a cross-border illegal arms supply module with the arrest of three people and the recovery of six pistols, police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar announced on Monday. He identified the accused as Deepak Singh (22) and Arun Kumar (26), both from Amritsar, and Sukhjinder Singh (29) of Kapurthala. The recovered arms include one .30 bore PX5, three .32 bore, and two .30 bore pistols along with seven live cartridges. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly procuring illegal weapons from Madhya Pradesh. They were also in contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler through social media platforms who was facilitating the supply of weapons through drones and coordinating distribution through local handlers. Bhullar added that the network was actively operating in the Majha and Doaba regions. The commissioner said the accused procured these weapons to execute a major criminal act, which was successfully averted. Both Deepak and Arun have criminal backgrounds, facing previous cases of attempted murder, theft, and other serious offences. A case under Section 25 of the Arms Act has been registered at the Civil Lines police station. MSID:: 130391634 413 |
