Alwar: Three armed, masked miscreants entered the house of GST department Assistant Commissioner Omprakash in the Apna Ghar Shalimar residential society, under the Sadar police station area of Alwar district, at around 6 am on Saturday and carried out a robbery at gunpoint. According to Omprakash, he was woken by his wife Urmila, 45, and got up to collect milk. As he went to the outside bathroom, a masked miscreant came from the roof and placed a katta (country-made pistol) on his temple. Two more miscreants then entered the house, and one of them put a katta to Urmila’s temple.When Urmila screamed, the couple’s 14-year-old son intervened and clashed with the miscreants, but two of them overpowered him and one struck him on the head with a bat, smashing his head. The family’s hands and feet were tied with rope. Their 8-year-old daughter Navya was also in the house and was asleep at the time.Omprakash said the miscreants held the family hostage for about 1.5 hours, assaulted them and searched the house. They took the key to a cupboard in a back room and looted about 20 tola of gold and silver jewellery kept inside, along with jewellery said to be worth about Rs 25 lakh and cash worth Rs 40 thousand. He said the accused made Urmila remove her earrings and also took away her anklets. He further stated that the miscreants threatened to rape his wife and continued threatening her repeatedly during the incident.During the robbery, the miscreants went into the kitchen and ate mangoes. They asked Urmila to make tea, but there was no milk in the house at the time.In the morning, a school bus arrived to pick up the child. When the driver honked, one miscreant went outside and told him the children would not go to school that day. The miscreants fled at around 7:15 am after looting jewellery and cash.Omprakash later managed to untie himself and informed neighbours, after which Sadar police reached the spot, inspected the scene and checked nearby CCTV footage.Residents of the colony said the miscreants climbed up from a rear house during the night, reached the roof of Omprakash’s house and remained on the upper floor. They said that in the morning, when the lower gate was opened, the family was taken hostage.ASP Alwar Headquarters Deepak Kumar Sharma said the spot was inspected and CCTV footage was being examined. He said four separate teams were formed and raids were being conducted at suspected locations to catch the miscreants.In the afternoon, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully visited the site, met Omprakash and his family members, and attacked the govt over deteriorating law and order. He said jungle raj was prevailing in Rajasthan and questioned how common people would be safe if officials were not safe in their own homes.
