Ludhiana: A farmer is fighting for life after a violent land grab attempt degenerated into an armed ambush.Gurjit Singh suffered severe injuries when a gang of nine men, armed with guns and bladed weapons, stormed a farm in Jhorra village where he was at work with his brother, Jagroop. The attackers also vandalised the brothers’ tractor during the assault.Local police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects after arresting two men, including the son of the alleged ringleader.“We have arrested Amanvir Singh and his driver, Jagdev Singh,” said assistant sub-inspector Manohar Singh of the Hathur police station. “A manhunt is on to apprehend the remaining seven suspects, along with several unidentified co-conspirators.”Local resident Sukhjit Singh Baggi allegedly led the armed raid on the farmer’s property . Jagroop Singh stated in his police report that the gang had arrived with the explicit intention of occupying the leased agricultural land by force.Gurjit Singh was moved initially to a local clinic, but his condition deteriorated rapidly, forcing an emergency transfer to a major medical facility in Ludhiana.Hathur police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, rioting, and criminal intimidation, alongside firearms offences under the Arms Act.
