Srinagar, Aug 1: The Apni Party on Saturday staged a protest demonstration at Press Colony Srinagar, accusing the government of failing to address public grievances and deliver on its promises.
The protest was led by Apni Party Kashmir Provincial President Mohammad Ashraf Mir, with party leaders and workers raising slogans over unemployment, alleged arbitrary arrests, development issues and other concerns.
Addressing reporters after the protest, Mir alleged that the government had failed on multiple fronts and was unable to provide basic facilities to people.
“People gave a massive mandate to the ruling party in the hope that it would fulfil the promises made during the 2024 election campaign. However, the government has failed to deliver on those promises,” he said.
Mir questioned the government’s progress on employment generation, saying educated youth continued to face unemployment despite assurances of creating one lakh jobs after assuming power.
He linked unemployment with the growing drug menace and urged the government to take concrete steps to address the issue.
The Apni Party leader also accused the government of failing to bridge the developmental gap in Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that the pace of development had slowed down.
Expressing concern over the recent killing of two non-local labourers in Kulgam, Mir termed the incident painful and urged authorities to ensure the safety of people working in the region.
He also called upon the government to address concerns over alleged arbitrary arrests of youth in different parts of Kashmir and ensure that public grievances are resolved.
