Varanasi: The two-day national conference APACON-2026 concluded on Tuesday at Banaras Hindu University’s Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, Barkachha, Mirzapur.Organized by the department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry, faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, the conference was held on the theme “Emerging Paradigms in Animal Physiology Towards Sustainable Livestock Productivity: Towards Viksit Bharat.” It was the first national scientific conference hosted by the faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus.BHU vice chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi said the faculty has made steady progress despite challenges related to infrastructure and faculty development. He said such conferences offer scientists and young researchers a national platform for academic recognition and meaningful dialogue.Prof Chaturvedi also stressed the importance of collaboration among scientific institutions, technology transfer, joint research projects, co-supervision, industry partnerships, innovation, patents and institutional partnerships based on complementary strengths.Ravi Kumar Gandham, director, National Institute of Animal Biotechnology, Hyderabad, called for comprehensive studies on physiological traits such as disease resistance and heat tolerance at genetic and phenotypic levels. Prof BMN Kumar, professor in-charge, Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, said veterinary physiology has a crucial role in sustainable livestock production. He said the conference would help bring national recognition to the faculty and its research, while providing new direction to scientific research, breed improvement and sustainable dairy development.Prof Satish Kumar Singh, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, highlighted the role of precision nutrition and real-time health monitoring in improving livestock health and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
