Panaji: Citizens Citizens can now register a sale deed or any other property-related document at any sub-registrar office in the district. State govt has completed the process for district-wide registration. Goa has three districts. Earlier, property registration was allowed only at the respective taluka-level sub-registrar office.Chief minister Pramod Sawant told TOI that govt has taken a decision to allow registration of deeds related to properties anywhere in the district, and soon implementation will commence.The decision was taken based on the model adopted in Maharashtra and Karnataka.A senior govt officer said that this decision is only related to property matters and no other registrations.State govt will amend the Registration Act to allow the sub-registrar to register deeds of sale, mortgage deeds, agreements of sale, rectification deeds and any other registrations related to properties.Goa has a total of 12 sub-registrar offices. In North Goa: Pernem, Bicholim, Valpoi, Bardez and Tiswadi; in South Goa: Mormugao, Margao and Ponda; and in Kushavati district: Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona.A senior govt officer said that with the new system, a person who wants to register a deed related to properties can upload the document online and will come to know the pendency before the respective sub-registrar office in that particular district.“For example, if the property is in Mapusa and he has uploaded his documents to execute a deed for sale, immediately he will come to know how much pendency is before the sub-registrar office in Mapusa and other sub-registrar offices in the district. Accordingly, he can choose the sub-registrar office where he can apply to execute the deed for sale,” the officer said.The officer said that this will help the person execute the deed for sale within a few days instead of waiting in a queue for 10 to 15 days for an appointment.Govt took the decision as there were complaints of delay against some of the sub-registrars in executing and giving appointments to execute property-related deeds, Sawant said.The officer said that the new system will help Goans staying abroad and even those staying outside the state and wanting to execute their deeds related to properties and return to their respective countries or states. “This is an initiative under ease of doing business,” the officer said.
