Jaipur: Rajasthan Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force Sunday busted an illegal MD drug manufacturing unit in Barmer district and arrested one accused, seizing chemicals and equipment capable of producing a large quantity of the synthetic drug.Inspector General, ANTF, Vikas Kumar identified the accused as Nimbaram, who was arrested from a makeshift shelter on a farm under Dhorimanna police station limits. Kumar said that, acting on intelligence inputs, the ANTF raided the farm where an illegal synthetic drug laboratory was allegedly being set up.During the search, police recovered drums and containers filled with chemicals used to produce MD, along with equipment used to manufacture the narcotic substance. Kumar said the seized chemicals could be used to make nearly 15 kg of MD, or around 15,000 doses. At an estimated rate of Rs 3,000 per gram, the quantity could expose around 7,500 people to the drug.Police said the accused was seen engaged in suspicious activity behind the house near a tin-sheet fodder shed on the farm. When the team surrounded the premises, he tried to flee but was immediately apprehended.During interrogation, investigators found that the accused, a farmer who studied up to Class 5, was lured into setting up the drug lab by his relative Omprakash and an associate named Shaitan, who allegedly promised him large profits. Police said he bought the chemicals 10 to 15 days ago and had begun preparations to manufacture MD using makeshift methods. The ANTF raid took place while the operation was still at an early stage.Officials said Nimbaram also has a previous assault case registered against him at Dhorimanna police station in Barmer.Further investigation is underway to trace the accused’s associates and identify the intended supply network for the synthetic drugs.
