Ludhiana: Another newspaper seller was targeted by robbers on wee hours of Saturday. The 64-year-old newspaper seller from Haibowal was on his way to Mata Rani Chowk, where he was supposed to collect newspapers, when at Lakkar Bridge, two bike-borne assailants stopped him, threatened him with a knife and robbed him of cash.Chaman Lal said that he gave a fight to the accused initially, however, the moment they flashed a knife, he stopped resisting. The accused then robbed him of Rs 13,000 cash he was carrying in his pocket and escaped.

Importantly, in the past few months newspaper sellers, especially hawkers, have been targeted multiple times and in none of the cases, the police has been unable to trace the accused. Speaking to TOI, Chaman Lal said, “I have been selling newspapers in Haibowal area for the past 20 years. Every morning at around 7am I reach near Mata Rani Chowk to collect newspapers. On Saturday I also left the house on the scooter to get there. When I reached Lakkar Bridge, two bike-borne men intercepted my way. Some other commuters were also passing by, and I raised an alarm to seek help, however, nobody stopped to help me. At last, when the accused flashed a knife, I stopped resisting. The accused then snatched Rs 13,000 cash I was carrying with me and escaped,” added Chaman Lal.The victim later on reached division No. 1 police station and lodged a complaint.
