Chennai: Anna University has announced a one-year extension for eligible undergraduate and postgraduate students who have surpassed their maximum study duration but were unable to complete required courses due to changes in academic regulations. This decision came in the wake of a resolution by the university’s Academic Council, allowing students time to fulfill their academic obligations.
Students pursuing BE and BTech degrees must complete their courses within seven years, while ME and MTech students have a maximum limit of four years under the university’s regulations. The new provision grants students from various programs an opportunity to finish their pending courses during the academic year 2026-27.
The extension applies to individuals enrolled in the university’s departments, its affiliated institutions, and the Centre for Distance and Online Education. This initiative aims to assist those affected by the changes in academic rules and ensure they can complete their degrees.
This decision underscores Anna University’s commitment to supporting its students and adapting to the evolving academic landscape, enabling them to achieve their educational aspirations. The additional year provides eligible students with another opportunity to clear arrears and complete their academic programmes without having to abandon their efforts because of the prescribed time limit.
