Ahmedabad: A 38-year-old commission agent at an angadia firm in Ratanpol has approached the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB), alleging that three men failed to repay Rs 57.1 lakh linked to money transfers made through the firm in 2024.According to the complaint filed on Wednesday, the complainant handled money transfers for customers. He said an imitation jewellery trader from Kalupur had been regularly sending money through him and had authorised his employee to handle the transactions.The complainant told police that in March-April 2024, the trader instructed him to send money according to the directions of his younger brother.On July 13, 2024, the complainant allegedly sent Rs 33 lakh to a person in Delhi on the brother’s instructions. When the recipient could not be contacted, the brother allegedly sent a photograph of a Rs 10 note through WhatsApp instructing the complainant to hand over the money to a person who arrived with a note bearing the same number.The brother subsequently paid Rs 10 lakh in instalments, leaving Rs 23 lakh outstanding. Along with an earlier pending amount of Rs 16,400, the complainant claimed Rs 23.2 lakh remained unpaid from the Delhi transaction.On July 30, 2024, another Rs 25 lakh was allegedly sent through the angadia firm to a person in Rajkot on the trader’s instructions. Including an earlier outstanding of Rs 8.9 lakh, Rs 33.9 lakh remained due from the trader, the complaint states.The complainant said he repeatedly demanded payment from the two brothers. They allegedly told him that their employee had taken their money and fled. The complainant said the transactions had been made on their instructions and that he had no connection with their employee’s alleged disappearance.According to the complaint, the three accused subsequently stopped responding.The DCB has received the complaint and is examining the angadia records, WhatsApp conversations, bank transactions and details of the recipients in Delhi and Rajkot.
