Amritsar: Amritsar Rural Police has arrested four persons allegedly linked to foreign-based smugglers and recovered 10kg heroin and 10 illegal pistols in two separate operations targeting cross-border smuggling networks, informed Inspector General Gurpreet Singh Bhullar while talking to media persons here on Friday.Those arrested were identified as Rajanpreet Singh of Galluwal, Vijay of Rajatal Colony in Gharinda, Parasdeep Singh alias Billa of Kamboa and Gurmukh Singh alias Bodi of Kahangarh, Attari.Bhullar informed that the preliminary investigation had indicated that the accused were linked to foreign-based smugglers and were allegedly involved in procuring narcotics and illegal weapons on their directions. Police were investigating the networks and their full network, adding that the arrests were made in two separate operations by Gharinda police. In the first operation, police intercepted Rajanpreet and Vijay on specific information about an illegal weapons supply network and recovered 10 pistols from them.In the second operation, the police arrested Parasdeep and Gurmukh on inputs about a cross-border narcotics network and recovered 10kg heroin, Bhullar said. He described Parasdeep as a drug smuggler allegedly operating a drug network in the region. SSP Amritsar Rural Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said two FIRs had been registered at Gharinda police station — under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 21 of the NDPS Act adding that further investigation is underway.
