Amravati/Nagpur: Barely 24 hours after the arrest of Ayan Ahmed, key accused in the Amravati sex abuse and viral video scandal, a bulldozer rolled into the 19 year-old’s family home in Paratwada on Wednesday morning. ‘Bulldozer justice’ that gained notoriety in Uttar Pradesh, was meted out with a JCB that reached the spot near Jaistambh Chowk in the heart of the town with a huge convoy of civic officials and policemen. Even though it was almost noon, the area was devoid of traffic as cops lined up along the road leading to the house, to ensure no untoward incident occurs in the district that has a history of communal strife. Crowds gathered not only from the neighbourhood but also trooped in with local BJP MLA Pravin Tayade, who remained at the site till civic officials turned a portion of Ahmed’s house into rubble. But with locals reportedly supporting the action, civic officials had no problem in lining up the bulldozer and tearing down a metal staircase and the connected reinforced concrete landing leading to the house on the first floor.Within 30 minutes, the bulldozer had done its job and civic officials from Achalpur Municipal Council pasted a notice on the property, giving homeowners time till April 20 to produce documents to prove they have approvals for the ground-plus-one floor building. On the ground floor is a shop, Krishna Garments, which was locked since morning with no clarity on whether it was rented out or managed by the Ahmed family. Achalpur civic officials have directed the house owner or representative to be physically present for a hearing at 1pm on April 20, along with property ownership and building approval documents. “If you fail to show up for the meeting, it will be assumed that you have nothing to say and bulldozer action will be initiated again,” the notice by civic officials stated.
