Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the Matua and Namasudra communities lie at the heart of the BJP and assured them that citizenship will be provided once the party comes to power.

Addressing a campaign rally in Jamalpur in Purba Bardhhaman district, Shah alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been misleading the Matua community by claiming that the BJP would take away their voting rights if voted to power.

“This is absolutely false,” Shah said.

Reiterating the BJP’s stand on citizenship, he said, “Mamata Didi did not allow the implementation of the CAA law and all Matua community’s citizenship will be taken care of once we come to power.”
“I want to make it clear to the Matua community that they will be given citizenship after we come to power,” Shah added.
Shah also asserted that the BJP will form the government with 110 seats in phase 1 and said Mamata Banerjee gets upset when he warns Trinamool Congress-backed “hooligans” of strict action if they attempt to disrupt the polling process.
“I am just issuing a note of caution. If the hooligans do not mend their ways, their place will be behind bars,” he said.
