Srinagar, Jul 24: After remaining suspended for six consecutive days due to inclement weather, the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is likely to resume on Saturday, subject to favourable weather conditions, official sources said on Friday.
Weather conditions improved on Friday afternoon, prompting authorities to review the situation. The pilgrimage is expected to resume from both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes, while officials continue to closely monitor the weather and road conditions.
The 57-day annual pilgrimage commenced on July 3 and witnessed an overwhelming response from devotees from across the country, with lakhs of pilgrims undertaking the journey to pay obeisance at the holy Amarnath cave shrine housing the naturally formed ice Shivlingam.
Officials said that more than 3.70 lakh pilgrims performed darshan before the Yatra was suspended due to persistent rainfall and other weather-related disruptions. The pilgrimage remained halted for the past six days as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
Authorities have already put in place multi-layered security arrangements along both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes to ensure the safe conduct of the pilgrimage. Adequate deployment of security personnel, traffic regulation measures, medical facilities, emergency response teams, sanitation services, and other essential amenities have been maintained to facilitate the smooth movement and safety of pilgrims.
