Slamming the Trinamool Congress government for earmarking around ₹6,000 crore for madrasas, he said the state government was neglecting funding the development of North Bengal, emphasising that Siliguri is a significant gateway to the northeast and crucial for India’s security.
“All the candidates are also Modi. Give one opportunity to Modi for creating employment, establishing law and order for women’s safety and bringing back investments in Bengal,” Modi said at a heavily-packed public rally in Siliguri’s Kawakhali. “Siliguri is significant as it is North Bengal’s gateway to the North East. North Bengal’s infrastructure has been neglected. Industry, connectivity, tourism — every sector has been neglected and central funds have been misused,” he said. “For the BJP, the Siliguri Corridor represents a corridor of the nation, its security, and prosperity. This project will greatly boost connectivity, trade, and tourism in Bengal and Sikkim,” the PM said.
Calling Trinamool Congress as “an anti-North Bengal, anti-tribal and anti-tea garden” party, Modi said the Trinamool is against women and youth. He alleged that the TMC has destroyed Bengal during its 15-year tenure. Modi alleged that “the country has a ‘tukde-tukde’ gang, and it threatened to cut off the Siliguri Corridor. Trinamool, which does appeasement politics, supported such people.”
Modi said the Centre was working to develop the corridor on a massive scale.
Talking about the huge assembly of people at his Bengal rallies, Modi said “Your blessings and love are my biggest inspiration. When every citizen is blessing me with so much love, I also promise, I will dedicate myself and fight for you people. This will make Trinamool sleepless. Siliguri rally has decided that Trinamool’s ‘jungleraj’ will bid adieu.
