Lucknow: Alleging large-scale corruption, illegal land occupation and a complete breakdown of law and order in the state, president of the Samajwadi Party and former UP chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav, on Friday claimed that criminals were operating fearlessly and committing murders in broad daylight.Addressing party supporters from various districts at party headquarters, SP chief alleged that corruption had reached unprecedented levels across departments and that “dishonesty and loot” were rampant at every level. He accused the govt of “acting like land mafia” and claimed that illegal encroachments were taking place on a massive scale.Targeting the BJP’s nine-year tenure in the state, Yadav alleged that UP has been “ruined,” with public funds being misused and farmers failing to receive fair prices for their crops. He claimed that middlemen dominated agricultural markets, while illegal mining, trade, and other unlawful activities have increased. He also highlighted rising inflation and unemployment, stating that even educated youth were struggling to find jobs.Akhilesh also alleged widespread corruption in road construction and Public Works Department projects, claiming that “heavy commission practices” are responsible for the construction of poor-quality infrastructure. He raised concerns over environmental degradation, alleging that river pollution had worsened.Calling for political change, he said people were “fed up” with the current govt and urged party workers to reach out to every household to mobilise support for the 2027 assembly elections. He promised that a SP govt would ensure justice, social equity, better opportunities, and fair crop prices for farmers.‘Eid symbol of joy and harmony’SP chief Akhilesh Yadav extended greetings to people on the occasion of Eid and wished them happiness, peace and prosperity. In his message, he said that the festival symbolises togetherness, joy and harmony. Such occasions provide an opportunity to reinforce mutual respect, compassion and a sense of brotherhood among people from all walks of life, he said. He also called upon people to uphold the values of inclusiveness and collective well-being.
