Prayagraj: Akasa Air on Thursday resumed daily flights between Prayagraj and Mumbai, offering passengers more options during the festive travel season. The airline had earlier cut its Mumbai service from seven days a week to only Mondays because of rising fuel costs. The increase in flights has also kept Mumbai fares relatively lower than those for several other destinations. On Thursday, Akasa’s one-way fare from Prayagraj to Mumbai was around Rs 5,264, against Rs 5,565 on IndiGo. The Mumbai fare was also lower than the fare for Delhi, which stood at around Rs 6,523. For Nov 10, shortly after Diwali, the Mumbai fare (as on Wednesday) was around Rs 8,405, while fares to Bhubaneswar and Bengaluru on Nov 11 are around Rs 15,000 and Rs 16,210 respectively. The airline will operate the Mumbai service daily throughout Oct, while the frequency is scheduled to come down to six days a week from Nov. The specific weekly off-day for Nov was not available in the schedule.IndiGo is also increasing its operations to Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru from Oct 25. Under the revised schedule, additional flights will operate to Mumbai on Mondays and Wednesdays, Hyderabad on Tuesday and Bengaluru on Friday. At the same time, IndiGo has decided to discontinue its Thursday service between Prayagraj and Bhubaneswar. The improved connectivity comes after a sharp decline in air traffic at Prayagraj airport in Sept. The airport recorded only 168 aircraft movements and 26,009 passengers during the month, the lowest Sept figures since 2019.In Sept, Akasa’s Mumbai service operated only once a week, while there was no flight operation on Saturdays.Compared with Sept 2025, aircraft movements declined by 118, or around 41.3%, while passenger traffic fell by nearly 10,000.
