Ahmedabad: Ellisbridge police have arrested a 41-year-old physical training (PT) instructor working on contract at Gujarat College for allegedly cheating 20 students by promising them jobs in the Air Force and Navy as well as spots in state-level cricket teams.Investigators are examining whether more students were cheated.According to Ellisbridge police, the accused was arrested from Anjar in Kutch on Friday after the surveillance team traced his movements. Police said he had allegedly changed around 10 mobile numbers and seven mobile phones after students began trying to contact him.A case was registered after a 20-year-old BCom student approached police. According to the complaint, the PT instructor met the student during volleyball practice in April and allegedly offered to arrange an Air Force job for Rs 15,000. When the student said he was not interested in a job, the instructor allegedly offered to arrange his selection for a state-level cricket tournament in Puducherry.The instructor allegedly demanded Rs 45,500 from the student and Rs 53,500 for his friend, who was also interested in playing cricket. The student said he transferred Rs 99,000 to the teacher on April 17 and 18.The instructor allegedly told the students that they would receive an official selection letter from the Puducherry Cricket Association and that travel, accommodation, food and medical insurance costs would be covered.However, no such email or selection letter was received.Two students were reportedly charged Rs 15,000 each, taking the amount mentioned in the complaint to around Rs 1.3 lakh.Childhood friend calls after 20 years, cheats man of ₹16LRajkot: Gandhigram-2 (University) police registered a case against a man for allegedly duping a childhood friend and four others of Rs 16 lakh by promising them jobs in the Indian Air Force.According to the FIR, a 40-year-old resident of Kalawad Road received a call on June 8 from his childhood friend.The two had not met for 20 years. The friend claimed he could arrange a driver’s job for money. No job materialised.The man later learnt that his friend had been detained by police in Ahmedabad over a financial dispute. The man then approached police.
